Small Groups

"Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts..." Acts 2:46-47

What are small groups all about?

Small groups of 3 to 30 people meet together on a regular basis in homes, at church, or at restaurants. The format is open and flexible allowing time for questions and group discussions on applicable topics that affect our lives iwth answers from a Biblical perspective. You can relax...everyone's at different stages spiritually, so you won't feel out of place about how much you know the Bible, or about praying or reading out loud. Some groups use booklets that can be purchased inexpensively.

Belonging to a small group offers you a place to...

  • Get connected with others: a place to build meaningful relationships with other believers - everyone knows your name & cares!
  • Strengthen your grip on God's Word & Prayer!
  • Relax-you won't feel out of place or put on the spot. Everyone's at different stages spiritually, so it doesn't matter how much you know the Bible.
  • Opportunities to introduce friends to your church family in a way other than Sunday morning!
  • Be challenged to grow deeper in your relationship with God.
  • Be cared and prayed for during both good and trying times.
  • Child care is handled differently by each group.
Significant relationships best occur in small groups. Without this connection, people can, at best, attend meetings, and can easily feel "left out" and fall through the cracks. Nor can they fully develop or carry out the "one anothers" of Scripture - a few of these include:
  • Build up one another - 1 Thessalonians 5:11
  • Encourage one another - 1 Thessalonians 4:18
  • Pray for one another - James 5:16
  • Instruct one another - Romans 15:14
  • Carry each other's burdens - Galatians 6:2
  • Offer hospitality to one another - 1 Peter 4:9
  • Admonish one another - Colossians 3:16
  • Spur one another on toward love and good deeds - Hebrews 10:24

FBC Focus Groups

Basically part of the FBC Purpose Statement reads that "We exist ...to help disciples commit to becoming more like Christ." Furthermore, the first sentence of the small group ministry purpose statement reads, "The Small Group Ministry's goal is to see every person, from the core of our church to the ever-growing community, connected in a healthy small group."

The truth of the matter is that as wonderful as our small groups are and as good as God has been in developing balanced followers in large part due to our small groups, we have a lot of growth left in achieving the goals set forth for our congregation. For one, we have many in our church not connected with a small group. Secondly, we need to continue striving to be effective and relevant in the tools we offer to help believers in their journey to be more Christ-like.

Focus groups will give an opportunity to any FBC members and attendees (and perhaps even others), whether in small groups or not, to give feedback on what FBC can/should do to better help people to commit to becoming more Christ-like and on what FBC can/should do to get more people connected with small groups.

The exact nature these focus groups will have is still in the works and it is possible different focus group sessions will operate slightly differently. However, these focus groups are being designed for you to give significant input on issues our church leadership has been thinking about, praying through, and attempting to discern answers to.

Focus groups are conducted on a periodic basis for continued feedback. Keep checking this web page for future dates.
